Celtics add Mikki Moore; who is left for the Magic to sign?

Damn. It looks like Mikki Moore is taking his game to Boston. While the Magic haven’t been mentioned in the chase for some of the potential buy-out candidates, they do still have two open roster spots, and Zach mentioned this about Moore earlier in the week.

“Recently cut by the Sacramento Kings, Moore could likely be landed with the veteran’s minimum. Moore is a solid rebounder who won’t hurt you on offense, but his defense is weak. Basically, he gives you no more or less than Tony Battie or Marcin Gortat. Moore would give the Magic two Nebraska players (Tyronn Lue), which is never a good thing.”

I think Moore would have looked good coming off the bench for the Magic. He’s a nice inside role player that knows he’s a role player. He could come in, play 15 minutes, make a few hustle plays and have an immediate impact. Now that he’s off the market, the Magic can hope for a few different possibilities. I’m hearing that former Magic power forward Drew Gooden doesn’t want to play for the Kings and wants to be bought out after being acquired from the Bulls at last week’s trading deadline. Gooden still has plenty of value, and would help with scoring and rebounding off the bench. The other possibility is Joe Smith, who is still waiting for his walking papers in Oklahoma City. Smith was a part of the Tyson Chandler trade that wasn’t. It’s been said that Smith had interest in joining the Celtics if he were bought out, but with a full roster that’s not a possibility. It seems to me that if Smith does hit the market, it’ll be down to the Magic and Cleveland for his services. What about Pat Garrity? No. Not Pat Garrity. The real question is, who would you rather have? Should the Magic bring back Gooden, or make a play for the former No. 1 overall pick Smith (if he becomes available)?
