A few things you might be interested in

  • Check out this cell phone commercial starring a rapping Hedo Turkoglu, a marketing icon in Turkey. Among all the former Magic players, I may miss Turk more than anyone because of the person he is off the court. If it weren’t for his playing ability and his incredible height, he’s a guy you could see crashing in your basement in between jobs or awkwardly stuttering during a first date. And I mean those both as a compliments.

  • So, Matt Barnes is with Orlando (although not officially) and C.J. Watson is not. The Magic’s trade exception acquired for Keyon Dooling last offseason has expired, and the Warriors are unlikely to have interest in the Magic’s only real trade-able piece, J.J. Redick – it’s hard to imagine a scenario where Watson joins the Magic. Otis Smith told the Sentinel that Barnes and Watson have nothing to do with each other, but that’s not true, is it? Here’s the latest from the Sentinel on the Magic’s search for a point guard:

“I still need a point guard,” Smith said. “… Some time we’ll get a point guard whether it’s Watson or somebody else.” When I asked if he was close to finding a point guard, Smith said, “No, not at all. But I’m not in a hurry either. We’ll take our time and we’ll get the right player for us.”

  • The Big Train over at TPASTBM gives a compelling (and particularly angry) response to an article bashing Orlando’s moves this offseason.
  • Lastly, there are spots remaining in Dwight Howard’s basketball camp, which is Aug. 4-6 at the University of Central Florida. The camp is open to ages 7-18, and Dwight will be there. There aren’t many spots left, so sign up soon. For more information, go to the camp’s official site.
